The Colonization of North America
Colonization occurs when a group (society/culture) takes control of a region and claim it as their own. This is done regardless of concern for other indigenous people who already inhabited the land. The colonizers explore the new land on behalf of their home country and take advantage of the resources that they find. Colonizers permanently inhabit the region and often create settlements which support the growth of new population. This unit seeks to uncover and to understand the effects and results of the colonization of North America and impact such colonization had on the First Nations people that were already here.
